Three days ago I started having cramping really low in my abdomen that felt like very mild menstrual cramps. These cramps have been on and off for the last 3 days. They haven't been painful or uncomfortable, just noticeable. So I asked about them at my 36 week appointment today, and the first thing my doctor said was, "Those are contractions!" WOW! I had no idea. Apparently they are Braxton Hicks contractions, which are pre-labor uterine contractions getting my body ready for delivery.
And the bigger news... when my doctor checked my cervix she said I am a fingertip dilated and slightly effaced!!! I can't believe I am making progress already! These measurements don't mean too much though, because I could be a fingertip dilated for the next few days or the next 3 weeks. My doctor predicts that I will go into labor sometime in my 39th week, but we all know how predictions go. Predicting labor is just about as accurate as predicting earthquakes.
For now, we still want Aria to hold out until 37 weeks (when I am full term), but after that it is fair game!
